CHAMPION YOUTH OUTREACH PROGRAMS

DanceWorks / Champion Youth Poms

Welcome Flyer

Welcome!  We are very excited about being with you this session and are pleased to provide these dance and poms programs that enhance your child's artistic expression, confidence and coordination!

Champion Youth Outreach is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing low-cost, community based outreach programs to boys and girls ages 5-15.  We work with other community organizations to provide

quality youth programs.  Qualified instructors will be teaching fundamental dance techniques, terminology and routines.  Dance routines consist of age-appropriate hip-hop and jazz steps choreographed to popular family-friendly music.  Pom-pon routines consist of similar style dance steps and use the poms to create beautiful visual effects.  Students are placed in classes according to their age and ability.  Lessons are fun and challenging and build up to a dance & poms recital at the end of the session!

DanceWorks & Champion Youth Poms classes are on-going programs.  Sessions run 6-12 weeks during the fall, winter and spring (summer session available if enrollment allows).  New routines are taught each session. Certificates and perfect attendance ribbons are awarded at the last class of each session!

We rely on parental involvement to keep the costs of our programs low.  Please volunteer to help the instructor if you are going to be at class each week.  We will need parents to help with weekly sign-in,

and to assist during class.  See your instructor if you would like to join our Parent Helper’s Club!

PARENTS MUST ACCOMPANY CHILDREN TO AND FROM THE CLASSROOM!

At the end of each session all dance & pom classes are invited to perform in the DanceWorks Dance & Poms Recital!  This event is the highlight of each session!!

Since 1991, Champion Youth has been involved in community service working in conjunction with many local organizations.  We strive to meet the needs of the child, family, and community by designing specialty programs that enhance one's self-esteem and confidence, develop skills and knowledge, and provide positive, social interaction.  In order to meet these goals, we need feedback from parents and students.  If at any time you have comments or suggestions about our programs or instructors, please feel free to call, write or e-mail us at www.ChampionYouth.com.  We appreciate your support and value your input.  Have a great class!

Champion Youth Poms/Danceworks Session Summary & Highlights

Weekly sign-in procedures:  Every student is required to sign-in at the registration table each week.  Make checks payable to "Champion Youth" and please include a phone # and driver’s license # on the check.  There is a $25.00 fee for returned checks and your checks will no longer be honored.  Please be on time; late students interrupt the class and miss important announcements and information.  All students must be picked up promptly after their class!  We are not allowed to “hang out” on school property.

Perfect Attendance is Awarded!  A perfect attendance ribbon will be awarded to all students who attend every class during the session.  Attending the DanceWorks Dance & Poms Recital will count as one make-up class!   Classes can be made up by taking 2 classes on the same evening.  If you do this, make sure to sign in twice and write “make-up” next to one of your signatures.

Parent Helper's Club:  We rely on parental involvement to keep the costs of our programs low.  Please volunteer to help the instructor if you are going to be at class each week.  We will need parents to help with weekly sign-in and to assist during class.

Champion Youth Poms Uniforms & Accessories:  In order for the squad to look uniform, you will need Champion Youth poms (cost $14)  and the uniform to participate in the recital.  The younger girls use “youth poms” (10” strands), and the older girls use “large poms” (13” strands).  Students may use practice poms during class until they receive their order, but these must be returned to the teacher at the end of class.  The Champion Youth Poms sweatshirt ($15) or T-shirt ($12) TBA in class & shorts ($12) will be worn for the performance.  Classes will decide if they want to also use shoe poms ($4.50) and hair scrunchies ($4) before uniform order night.  These uniforms are very practical and inexpensive compared to for profit programs that have uniforms that can be very costly, and often are only useful for the performance!  All our uniform pieces are great items for the students to have in their wardrobe anyway!  (We are not currently using cheerleading skirt outfits due to the $75-$90 retail price!)

DanceWorks Uniforms & Accessories:  Champion Youth Shorts ($12),  and Danceworks T-shirt ($12) will be worn for the performance.  The shorts are the same as used for the poms classes, so you only need to purchase 1 pair  of shorts!  As for footwear,  no platform shoes allowed!  These are not appropriate for class as they increase chances of ankle injuries.  Black ballet shoes have been discontinued and are available in children’s sizes 9 through 13 ½  for only $5.00 ($18.00 value).  Some adult sizes still available also.  Black jazz shoes may be special ordered if desired for $30.00. Other appropriate footwear would include flat white tennis shoes, as will be used for the poms classes.

Children’s Equipment Donation Raffle (Optional):  If you desire, you may earn your accessories in the Children's Equipment Donation.  If you want to do the raffle, pick up a pack registration night or the first night of class and turn in on uniform order night.  If you already have your uniform, you may use the raffle to get the shoe poms, scrunchies, or other misc. items.

DanceWorks Dance & Poms Recital:  At the end of every session, all classes are invited to participate in our DanceWorks Dance & Poms Show!  The event gives our classes the chance to show off the moves and routines they have learned during the session!  Admission to the shows in rented auditoriums will be $5.00 for each spectator attending. (Participants & children under five are free.)  The ticket price helps to COVER THE COST of  having the recital (insurance, venue rental, sound technicians, etc.).  If these items were donated to us, we would not have to charge for tickets at all, however  this is unfortunately not the case (as some people may incorrectly assume they are!)  Please note many for-profit studios charge $10-$20 per ticket!  If an “in-house”recital is held, there is no admission charge, however seating may be limited. The recital event is the highlight of the session!

Curriculum:  Please note that sessions may vary from 6-12 weeks long.

WEEK 1-3 New student registration:  We accept new students the first 2 or 3 weeks of class (depending on length of session-see flyer). Bring a friend!  It's always more fun to have a friend to practice with!

WEEKS 1-11  You will be learning new steps & combinations that will be used in your routines. A typical class includes the following:  Warm-up and stretching.  The dance or poms routine is reviewed and practiced.  New combinations may be added.

Practicing at home for even a few minutes/day can make a tremendous difference in how well you will remember/perform the routine!

UNIFORM ORDER NIGHT.  You may get your uniform on registration night if you desire and then the student can wear their uniform to class each week.  The other option is to order your uniform on “UNIFORM ORDER NIGHT” which is listed on your class calendar (about ½ way through the session).  If you want you can earn items through the Children's Equipment Donation Raffle (Optional).  Though we offer a low cost program, it can be discouraging for parents to discover the additional costs of outfits & accessories.  This is how the donation works:  Champion Youth will give away door prizes at our Karate Tournament or Dance Recital held at dates to be determined (usually at end of spring session).  Students offer door prize tickets to anyone who wishes to make a donation in return for a raffle ticket.  100% of all donations will be used to pay for outfits & accessories!  By earning their equipment, students get an added sense of responsibility, and parents are relieved of additional expenses. Earnings from the equipment donation can be turned in to your instructor on Uniform Order Night.  PLEASE NOTE: EQUIPMENT CANNOT BE ORDERED UNTIL IT IS PAID FOR.

WEEK 12  Awards Ceremonies:  Certificates and perfect attendance ribbons will be handed out!  All students are invited to participate in the DanceWorks Dance & Poms Show!!
